Pakistan observes Defence Day on September 6th each year. Defense Day is a big celebration in Pakistan to commemorate Pakistan’s decisive win against India on September 6th, 1965, which marked the conclusion of the 1965 war.
Who won the 1965 war?
On September 6, 1965, the Indian army breached Pakistan’s international boundaries without a formal proclamation. Indians entered West Pakistan’s international border at 3:00 a.m. and launched a triangular offensive against Lahore, Sialkot, and Rajasthan. There was a fierce tank battle in the Punjab plains. In their arrogant determination to control the area, India brushed aside her international responsibilities. The Indian attack on Lahore was resisted and pushed back, resulting in terrible losses for the invaders. The Pakistan Army forces defending on the ground, assisted by the Pakistani Army, were able to cut and wind back to the Indian onslaught.
The seventeen-day conflict saw the beefiest engagements since World War II, resulting in thousands of deaths on both sides while remaining tactically inconclusive. Pakistan survived an invasion of its land by an adversary four times its number, and thereby, the entire nation rose to the occasion with steely resolve. The Pakistani galvanized at every level, with every child, man, and woman contributing to the military effort, whether it was to raise finances, train as citizen guards, or work as nursing staff.
